biographical note


Venezuelan composer of outstanding artistic merits. Excellent symphony orchestras, ensembles and soloists (mostly national) program his works. He has received several international awards.

Solo recitals playing his own compositions and improvisations on piano, English concertina, homemade instruments and electronic media are unique and greeted with enthusiasm by an appreciative audience.

Born in Caracas on January, 1956.

He has been composing music for more than 30 years. As part of his Piano graduation program his piece Irrelevance (music theater for solo piano, 1976) was accepted as the obligatory piece by a venezuelan composer.

Since 1990 he has been teaching composition, orchestration and electronic music at the Universidad Experimental de Arte (UNEARTE) in Caracas, Venezuela. He has also taught music courses on electronic music at the Simón Bolívar Conservatory since 1983.

From 1971 to 1973 he was a member of the Experimental Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela playing piano, celesta and minor percussion.

On January, 1979 he graduated Electronic Engineer (top of his class) from the University Simón Bolívar and completed his Master's Degree in Music Composition at the same university in 2004.

He plays piano, English concertina (a small button accordion), homemade instruments of his own design and also works with electronic media.

His works include symphony music, a children’s opera, concertos, chamber music, solo piano music, songs, incidental music for dance, films and TV documentaries, electronic and experimental music, videoart, sound poetry and works for voluntary audience participation. He has also created musical instruments with materials from general, hardware and toy stores, and written original scripts, libretti, lyrics, plays and poetry.

His creative work has received twenty national and three international awards.

He has featured in solo recitals and with symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles, mostly performing his own work. He also lectures and conducts workshops on diverse topics related to his work.

He is married, has a son and lives in Caracas, Venezuela.
